If you’d told me back in 2004 that James Wan, then-director of Saw, would become the architect of horror’s more important cinematic universe a decade later, I would’ve thrown my hands up in the air and declared the the end of the genre. So I’m as happy as anyone to see that Wan’s The Conjuring universe continues to impressive (and improve!) with each subsequent entry. Coming off the heels of The Conjuring 2, one of the better haunted house movies of the last couple of decades, Annabelle: Creation shows that the franchise shows no signs of slowing down… at least not until we’ve explored every item in the Warren’s Raiders of the Lost Ark-esque trophy room.

Even if another Annabelle movie wasn’t enough to lure out horror fans, it also serves as David F. Sandberg‘s follow up to Lights Out, the 2016 feature based on his short of the same name. Sandberg has become a pretty in-demand director since Lights Out made nearly $150 million worldwide; as this Annabelle: Creation clip shows, this will be a great opportunity for Sandberg to show off his skills with a bigger and more prestigious horror film. Oh, and these two new clips from the movie (via ComingSoon.net)? Seems like the producers of Annabelle: Creation learned a thing or two from Sandberg’s short: give audiences a scary scene in a bedroom and they’ll clamor for more. Terrifying dolls are a welcome addition to the mix.

Here’s the full synopsis for Annabelle: Creation:

Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

Annabelle: Creation stars Anthony LaPaglia, Lulu Wilson, Talitha Bateman, Stephanie Sigman, and Miranda Otto. It’ll creep its way into theaters on August 11, 2017.
