Kendrick Lamar is being applauded by rap fans for his work on the Black Panther movie soundtrack, but unfortunately there is a negative aspect linked to a new video. A British-Liberian artist named Lina Iris Viktor claims that the Compton, Calif. rapper and his team used her artwork without her permission for his "All the Stars" music video.

According to The New York Times, Viktor believes that K. Dot and TDE violated the copyright of her artwork and used it without her permission in the visuals. Her lawyer, Christopher Robinson, reportedly sent a letter to label head Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith alleging a copyright violation of the 24-karat gold, patterned artwork from her "Constellations" paintings.

In the letter, Robinson calls the infringement of Viktor's artwork "willful and egregious." It also says that she is willing “to discuss a resolution of all her claims, consisting at a minimum of a public apology for the unauthorized use and a license fee.”

If you watch K. Dot and SZA's "All the Stars" visuals, you can see some of the gold and black themes used around the three-minute mark, displaying models standing in front of the painted background. While the artwork isn't exactly the same as Viktor's, the themes and patterns were certainly similar enough to cause her friends and family to alert her of the art being used in the visuals.

Robinson claims that Viktor was contacted by a Marvel set decorator's assistant in November 2016, asking to use her "Constellations I" artwork in the Black Panther film. When she didn't agree to the financial and artistic terms, she declined to allow the company to use her artwork. She was contacted again in December 2017 by the public relations firm for Marvel and Disney, to use her art to promote the film and for social media. She also declined the second offer.

At the moment, Kendrick nor TDE have responded to the allegations. Hopefully this case can be worked out. XXL has reached out to the rapper's team for comment.
