We don’t know when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is coming out, but we know that it’s happening, and happening soon. And director James Gunn seems to have hinted at a possible 2020 release date, which would put it right in line with the other evenly-spaced Guardians movies, the first of which came out in 2014, and the second arrived this year.
War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves has found his next big motion-capture project, and instead of apes, this time around it’s mice. The director has his eye on the Mouse Guard comic book series, an adaptation of which he will be producing for 20th Century Fox, and he and the studio are currently courting Maze Runner series helmer Wes Ball to direct it. Cue all the mice + maze jokes.
Thor and Jane Foster’s breakup has been one of those background subplots shrouded in mystery from the rest of the Avengers, though, to the rest of us who can see Natalie Portman’s real-life career flourishing beyond the bounds of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it makes perfect sense. The breakup was disappointing to some fans (me, I shipped it, it’s the purest relationship in the whole series and it’s OVER and I’m SAD ABOUT IT), but rest assured that Thor: Ragnarok will finally give us an in-universe explanation. Kinda.
Zack Snyder has been out of the spotlight since his exit from the Justice League movie following a shocking family tragedy, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been working on anything. Today, Snyder teased an upcoming short film, titled Snow Steam Iron, which was made with no budget, friends and family, and took just a weekend to shoot.
Benedict Cumberbatch will take a break from superhero duties for a bit and will be starring in Gypsy Boy, a film based on the memoirs of Mikey Walsh, a boxer who grew up in the tight-knit Romany community that won’t accept anyone back once they leave.
George Clooney’s Suburbicon looks like a high-tension fever dream of suburban America, where a seeming idyll devolves quickly into a hellscape of murder, lies, and broken glasses. It just premiered at TIFF to somewhat mixed reviews, and a new trailer has arrived on the heels of its screening.
Nicolas Cage’s next film might actually be his weirdest. No, seriously, hear us out. He’s teamed up with the director of Beyond the Black Rainbow Panos Cosmatos for a revenge thriller set in the wilderness in the 1980s, and from the first official image, it looks just as insane as it sounds.
Blade Runner 2049 sure seems like it’s planning to turn the whole Blade Runner mythos on its head. All of the promotional material has been teasing some kind of revelation that’ll change the future world of replicants forever, but we still have no idea what this revelation will be. What we do know is it definitely has something to do with Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard, who seems to have been in hiding ever since the events of the original film.
It won’t be hard for this fall to beat the worst summer box office in more than ten years, but it’s gearing up to blow the past few months out of the water. Fall — that is, Thanksgiving, a.k.a. all-the-kids-are-home-from-school-and-looking-for-something-to-do season — is almost upon us, and with it come some of the most exciting blockbusters of the year. And it’s Marvel vs. DC yet again as two superhero movies vie for the top spot.
Black Panther is swiftly approaching, and with it a ton of marketing and merch for this gorgeous-looking movie. Wakanda is the technicolor afropunk future the MCU is desperately in need of, with tons of vibrant, eye-catching costumes that promise the most visually-pleasing Marvel movie yet. One character whose look we haven’t seen in the trailers yet is Erik Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan, but according to one very cool Hasbro action figure he has a Black Panther suit of his own. With some added pizazz.
