After a rough night’s sleep, Bill Maher woke up and realized the error of his ways when he said the N-word live on his political talk show, Real Time With Bill Maher. The veteran comedian released a statement apologizing for saying the racial slur during his interview with Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse.

On Saturday (June 3), Maher received a ton of backlash following his live gaffe via social media with people calling for the funnyman to be fired from his show. Mr. Maher's statement (via New York Times) reads:

Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live show. Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry.”

HBO also issued its own statement on Saturday, stating, “Bill Maher’s comment last night was completely inexcusable and tasteless. We are removing his deeply offensive comment from any subsequent airings of the show.”

Although Maher issued an apology, folks are still calling for HBO to cancel his show. One such person is Chance the Rapper who expressed the same sentiments as most people on Twitter. He wrote:
