Ever since Black Widow was introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the fans have been clamoring for her to get her own movie. While Captain Marvel, which isn’t coming out until next year, will be the MCU’s first solo female superhero joint, recent reports indicate that Natasha Romanoff may get her day in the sun after all.

A few months ago, Marvel nabbed a writer for her movie, and, buried in The Hollywood Reporter’s report about Star Trek’s new female director, are a couple lines at the end that indicate Marvel’s search for a Black Widow director has been happening for some time:

Marvel Studios has been looking for a director to break its glass ceiling with Black Widow and has been meeting with filmmakers such as Deniz Gamze Erguven (the Turkish movie Mustang), Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and Amma Asante (A United Kingdom), among several others. That search is still ongoing, according to sources.

When the author of the article, Borys Kit, tweeted the info out on Thursday, Variety's Justin Kroll mentioned that Maggie Betts (Novitiate) and Angela Robinson (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women) have also reportedly had meetings with the studio.

Many of these directors have put themselves on the map with their more recent movies from the last two or three years, which indicates that this Black Widow movie is a very new plan for the MCU. If anything, it looks like it has a better chance of happening than it ever has, and with a roster of incredible talent as good as this, we should get excited.
