In a major change for one of the game's strongest independent hip-hop labels, BMG has acquired RBC Records, home to Chief Keef, Gucci Mane, Lil Reese and several other acts and independent rap imprints.

RBC specializes in digital distribution and marketing and also provides consulting services to labels such as E-40's Sick Wid It Records, home to OMB Peezy and Nef The Pharaoh.

As part of the acquisition, RBC co-founder Ben Grossi will be departing the company. In a statement, Grossi expressed optimism about the new partnership.

"BMG understands the intrinsic value and experience RBC brings in its more than 16-year history in the hip-hop/rap game and BMG possesses a formidable machine to complement it," Grossi said. "The depth and scale of what BMG brings to the table will allow RBC to achieve new heights."

BMG is among the world's largest music publishers. Its portfolio includes Virgin Music's publishing rights and dozens of record labels. RBC is its biggest entry into the hip-hop market.

The first projects slated for release under the new corporate structure include full-lengths by Chief Keef and Flippa, according to a press release. Keef's project The Cozart is scheduled to drop tomorrow.
