24 years after the death of Eazy-E, one of the rapper's overseas fans is fighting to solidify his legacy by encouraging his hometown to build a statue in the late rapper's honor.

According to the U.K.'s The Argus, Newhaven resident Guy Stevens made his case to honor the rapper, who passed away of AIDS in 1995, by telling the Newhaven Town Council that a statue of Eazy-E will "add to the town and bring some interest."

“Just do it. Get a statue or a plaque up," Stevens said in his plea. "Why not? You just wasted money on a bandstand on Denton island no one cares about so why not an Eazy-E memorial?”

Stevens, who's clearly a die-hard hip-hop fan, also created online polls to gauge the town's interest in establishing the memorial for the rapper. He claimed that the final vote was 60/40 in favor of honoring Eazy, whose life was memorialized in the 2015 film Straight Outta Compton.

“He needs to be remembered in some way in our town," Stevens said. "We have nothing going for us and no notable landmarks other than a fort. And Eazy-E is a legend. I think it would be unique, it would stand out, and would be eccentric."

The Newhaven Town Council hasn't given Stevens' calls for an Eazy-E memorial a proper response. However, the council did assert that they have no idea who the rapper is.
