On Friday (Dec. 22), SZA dropped her new video for “The Weekend,” one of the fan-favorite tracks from her Grammy-nominated album, Ctrl. The Solange-directed visual is gorgeous to look at but it has left many fans scratching their heads.

It was assumed that the video treatment for the the song, which features SZA singing from the perspective of a side chick, would likely include a handsome man playing the singer’s love interest and, possibly, Solange playing the main chick since she directed the visuals. But instead, fans are treated to SZA dancing in a parking garage and singing on a balcony of an art-deco building.

Sure, the video was meant to be artistic, but as many fans pointed out (via Twitter), SZA’s “The Weekend” video looks similar to Solange's artsy videos for “Cranes in the Sky" and "Don't Touch My Hair," which led to folks posting their critiques and disappointment at the lack of action in the clip.

"Sza gave us that weak video for The Weekend, with no side chicks, no side motherfuckers, no main chick... nothing. just her dancing in a garage. Stop running away from the fact that it's a side chick anthem. The video should of had hell of drama and tea," wrote one fan.

Other fans expressed that while the video was cool visually, it didn't really fit SZA.

"The Weekend video wasn’t bad it just didn’t make sense for SZA. It was very Solange. And that’s fine," one person wrote.
