From the moment it was first announced, David Gordon Green and Danny McBride’s Halloween remake has been the Holy Grail of horror fans everywhere. Not only do the two filmmakers have the blessing of original Halloween director John Carpenter  —  who is reportedly very happy with the script and keen on writing the score for the new movie  —  they also have the backing of indie horror studio Blumhouse Productions, the much-beloved horror factor behind two of the breakout hits of 2017: Jordan Peele’s Get Out and M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. While fans’ reactions to the Rob Zombie remakes may be mixed, there’s nothing but good vibrations going on for Green and McBride’s reboot, and Blumhouse is keen to capitalize on the trust they’ve earned.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum was asked if Halloween would be in theaters for October 2018. Blum promised that the film would hit that release target and even put his own body on the line if he’s wrong:

You can kill me. You can behead me. You can chop my hand off, the prince of horror, you can cut my hand off. That’s on the record.

As noted by The Wrap, Blum didn’t dub himself the prince of horror; that moniker was given to him by the interviewer, but given the string of hits that Blum’s studio has put together, it’s certainly an apt description. If Blum is willing to put his reputation on the line for an October Halloween release, then I guess we can go ahead and pencil it in. And in a Hollywood where everyone is planning their movie releases four or five years in advance, there’s something refreshing about an executive taking a personal stake in a movie release a mere 13 months away. Provided that Green and McBride aren’t put in a tough spot with the shooting schedule, Halloween is already looking like the next big horror film. Fingers, toes, and miscellaneous extra digits crossed that Blum and company deliver.
