Stephen King Universes Collide in Hulu’s First ‘Castle Rock’ Trailer

One Stephen King universe invariably leads to another, and Hulu is finally ready to show us how. Check out the creepy first look at J.J. Abramsanthology series Castle Rock, as the mysterious goings-on of a small town reveal some familiar King sights.

“You have no idea what’s happening here, do you?” is the only line of spoken dialogue in thew new Castle Rock sneak peak from New York Comic-Con, which otherwise shows us dramatic glances between all the main cast. In addition to all the other King Easter eggs buried in the footage, the closing shot even features a bumper sicker from Shawshank Prison.

The cast includes Leftovers and Daredevil favorite Scott Glenn as Sheriff Alan Pangborn, along with It star Bill Skarsgard in an unspecified role, Melanie Lynskey as Molly Strand, Bloodline alum Sissy Spacek as Ruth Deaver, the estranged adoptive mother of Henry (Moonlight star André Holland), and Suburgatory star Jane Levy as Jackie, “the death-obsessed and self-appointed historian of Castle Rock.”

Manhattan alum Sam Shaw and Dusty Thomason will helm the Bad Robot project, which Warner Bros. describes as:

A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, Castle Rock serves as the fictional Maine town where many of King’s stories have been set, including The Dead Zone, Cujo, The Body and others. References to the town can also be found in Creepshow, The Shawshank Redemption, Pet Sematary, The Stand, Under the Dome, 11.22.63 and others.

Each season is likely to feature different characters and storylines, but connect with certain themes and characters from previous years. Check out the first Castle Rock teaser again below, and stay tuned.
