JAY-Z’s 1998 film Streets Is Watching and its accompanying soundtrack turns 20 years old today (May 12). The soundtrack was a follow-up to Hov’s 1997 effort In My Lifetime, Vol. 1, while the movie ushered Roc-A-Fella Records into the film business.

Directed by Abdul Malik Abbott, the 60-minute straight-to-VHS flick featured stick-ups, gunfights, horseplay and sexual candor set to music from In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 (“Where I’m From”) and Reasonable Doubt. Together, Hov, Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” presented a gritty, street film about achieving the American Dream by any means necessary.

Since its release, Streets Is Watching has become a cult classic among fans who appreciate Roc-A-Fella Records’ legacy in the music business.

In celebration of the film and soundtrack's 20th anniversary, JAY-Z’s Tidal is streaming the movie in high definition. Those of you who own the original VHS tape can remember how grainy the film was when it was released in 1998. In addition, Tidal is also streaming the soundtrack as well.

Meanwhile, rap fans went on Twitter to celebrate Tidal streaming JAY-Z's cult film.

"Hold the fuck up. Lemme get a big ass bowl of Saturday morning cereal n wake the neighbors up by watching Streets Is Watching on tidal," tweeted one fan.

Another person wrote, "Watching 'Streets Is Watching' reminded me why Jay's raw talent before he dumbed down his flow for TRL, pop radio and bit more from BIG's catalog than Puffy did BIG's publishing. He can find the humor in street cats lives and make it sound simple but insightful."
