My thanks to Pat O’Hea from the Iowa Chairiots for stopping back to the Y105 studios this morning.

Pat O’Hea of the Iowa Chairiots stopped in to the Y105 studios a few months ago to tell us about the theft of the teams wheelchairs way back on December 14th of 2013.

To make a long story short, somebody stole a trailer containing 14 wheelchairs that the team uses to practice for their games and other charity events.

While you might think that a wheelchair is easy to replace, these were special titanium chairs built with heavy-duty material and valued up to $5,000 each!

The chairs are used for kids in the Sportability of Iowa programs each summer, which means many people suffered because of their theft.

Thankfully due to donations from many kind folks (including listeners of Y105), some of the chairs have now been replaced and some were even donated back to the organization!

Also in March, thanks to a Crime Stopper tip, a lead was given on a suspect and an arrest has been made in the theft of the wheelchairs.

If want more info on the team or would still like to help, catch Pat by calling 563-580-6084.  You can still donate by writing a check to Sportability of Iowa with Wheelchair Fundraiser in the memo and mail it to the University of Iowa Community Credit Union, 3409 Cedar Heights Dr., Cedar Falls, IA 50613.  (The group is now fully insuring all chairs to prevent a future loss!)

You can also learn more by visiting the OFFICIAL SPORTABILITY OF IOWA WEBSITE.

My thanks again to Pat and the Iowa Chairiots organization.
