Metallica teased "something unique and special" upon being announced as performers for the 59th Annual Grammys, and we recently learned that they will be paired up with pop superstar Lady Gaga for "music's biggest night." While on the surface it may seem an odd pairing, as we've seen over the years, Lady Gaga has shown her appreciation for hard rock and metal, giving us hope for an interesting performance.

During an appearance on Zane Lowe's Apple Music show, Gaga spoke to the host explaining how the pairing came about. "[I] was at Bradley [Cooper]'s house with Lars [Ulrich] and we were just like, hanging out," revealed the singer, who added that meeting and talking with Ulrich was "amazing."

She went on to add, "I've gotta tell you something: I went to see [Metallica] live. I mean, I've seen them a couple of times live, but I saw them live recently, and we were watching the show and I'll tell you something, those guys play better than they've ever played in their whole lives."

For rock and metal fans, it gives them a definite reason to watch the Sunday night airing of the Grammys. Metallica have also been nominated for Best Rock Song at the ceremony for their single "Hardwired." Be sure to tune in to CBS at 8PM ET / 5PM PT for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards to catch the performance.

In other Metallica Grammy week news, Billboard is reporting that the band will attend the annual Clive Davis-hosted pre-Grammy gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday (Feb. 11). The bash is one of the biggest parties of Grammy week, often generating some amazing performances for those in attendance. Just last year the surviving members of Nirvana performed with Beck doing a salute to David Bowie by playing "The Man Who Sold the World." A diverse crowd of musicians, celebrities and industry power players are expected to be in attendance.
