Lily Allen Drops Dancehall Jam ‘Higher’ from Anticipated Fourth Album, ‘No Shame’

From the hitmaker who ravaged radio stations with her sugar and spice ditties like "Smile" and "F--k You," Lily Allen just extended her artistic reach yet again with a flavorsome hip-hop-tinged track called "Higher."

First premiered on Beats 1 on Thursday (March 8), the song opens to a few punchy rhymes by British emcee Meridian Dan, who hatches the tone before Allen takes over with her trademark falsetto as soft guitar notes and bass switches lay out the sonic atmosphere.

"You know what you're doing / I won't listen to another excuse," the English songbird laments to her manipulative lover on the song. "You can't seduce me / Now who looks foolish?"

"Higher" is the first of two singles off the 32-year-old's long-awaited fourth album, No Shame, which arrives this summer on June 8. In addition, Allen revealed that another track from the record entitled "Three" would also be available for online listening on music streaming platforms in the U.S. at or around midnight.

"It’s the best album I can make," the "Hard out Here" star told Beats 1 about sharing her first album in four years with her fans. "There haven’t been any outside sources telling me what’s right and wrong, what’s going to work for radio and what isn’t, so that’s really great. That also means when it comes out, it’s my fault."

When speaking about her fourth album during an appearance on the News Roast podcast last year, the musician mentioned her album would offer listeners a behind-the-scenes impression of her private life and explore the emotions she felt after the dissolution of her marriage to Sam Cooper.

Allen stated: "Weirdly, this album is quite insular. Mainly it's to do with me and my relationship with my children, the breakdown of my marriage, substance abuse etc."
