Hip-hop royalty will be in building at the 2018 Essence Festival this summer in New Orleans.

Queen Latifah has been tapped to host the “Ladies First” program that will feature a performance from legendary rhymer Missy Elliott. The Virginia hasn’t touch the Essence fest stage since her headlining set in 2015. So this is a welcomed homecoming for Missy fans.

The concert, named after Latifah’s 1990 hit of the same name, will also feature performances from MC Lyte, Remy Ma and Nikki D. The event is set for July 7 at the Superdome in New Orleans.

Queen Latifah's "Ladies First" program joins an all-star lineup of concert performances, including Mary J. Blige, Doug E. Fresh and Xscape.

The Essence festival kicks off July 6 with chart-topping superstars Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Ledisi, Miguel and Jill Scott performing on the main stage. The three-day event closes on July 8 with R&B powerhouses Janet Jackson, Fantasia and Teddy Riley with Blackstreet, SWV and Guy. For more information, head over to essence.com.

Since Essence Fest is about empowerment, it makes since for Queen Latifah to be there since she's on a campaign to help build confidence for a new generation. The 48-year-old entertainment mogul teamed up with Strayer University to offer an 11-week online course that focuses on building two crucial qualities for success - confidence and perseverance.

"I’m thrilled to partner with Strayer University to help their students succeed," said Latifah in a press release. "Strayer has been helping busy working adults go back to school for over 125 years, and I’m honored to add to that legacy and support the students who are working so hard to further their careers."
