Radiohead Make Other Plans for Rock Hall of Fame Induction Night

We've laid out some of the reasons why Radiohead deserves a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, for which they've been nominated this year — but regardless of whether they are voted in, we now know they won't be appearing at the induction ceremony.

As our good friend Corbin Reiff at Uproxx points out, the band announced a new batch of tour dates today, with a stop scheduled for Buenos Aires on April 14. That is also the day of the induction ceremony. You can see their full list of tour dates below.

This is the first year of eligibility for Radiohead, who is considered by many to be a sure thing for induction. If organizers of the ceremony — and fans — were counting on their performance and live acceptance speech, they're out of luck. The band, however, has been steadfast in their disinterest in the honor so it's not surprise they haven't saved the date.

Frontman Thom Yorke told Rolling Stone he "always puts my foot in my mouth" when asked about honors like this, and drummer Phil Selway seemed rather disinterested in attending: "We'd have to sit down and talk about it but it's probably not at the top of my list of things to do."

"As a British band, it’s one of those things that it’s very lovely to be nominated, but we don’t quite culturally understand it," guitarist Ed O'Brien told Esquire. "It’s a very American thing. Us Brits are very bad at celebrating ourselves. ... It’s in our DNA to be a little ambivalent with award ceremonies. We haven’t had great experiences."

Multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood agreed, saying, "Maybe it's a cultural thing that I really don't understand. It's quite a self-regarding profession anyway, and anything that heightens that just makes me feel even more uncomfortable."
