I shared this on the air recently, but figured now would be an ideal time to put the info in blog form with the tomorrow's impending winter storm. At the time of this post, no schools have been delayed or cancelled for tomorrow, but IF you find yourself at home tomorrow and you're looking for something to do, you could do a lot worse than constructing the perfect snowman!

First, if you think using a ruler and protractor in order to construct the perfect snowman is dumb, then stop reading now (OK, don't ACTUALLY stop....I would like at least one person to finish this).

A mathematician in England came up with the formula for building the perfect snowman and he's shared the calculations he came up with:

  • Height: It should be 64 inches tall, or a little over five feet. That does NOT include the hat if you opt to use one. The bottom ball should be 31 inches high, the middle ball should be 20 inches and the head should be 13 inches.

  • You want to use fresh snow that fell when it was 32 degrees or colder outside.

  • The eyes should be no more than two inches apart.

  • The carrot nose should be exactly 1.5 inches.

  • You can use sticks for arms, plus any hat and scarf.  Just make sure the three buttons on the chest are an equal distance apart.

Good luck and Tweet your pictures to @JeffRobbY105!
