It's expected (and we're reporting) that actor Charlie Sheen is going to announce to the world that he is HIV positive Tuesday morning on the 'Today' show with Matt Lauer. What's unclear is how long ago he was diagnosed and what kind of lifestyle he's led since he knew he was infected.

I like a lot about Charlie Sheen; he's very philanthropic by all accounts, comes across as an intelligent guy and is quick to put someone in their place when they're clearly in the wrong.

All that said, he's certainly no role model; he's been very open about his week-long drug binges and dalliances with prostitutes and porn stars.

I'm sure many, including yours truly, have cracked jokes about Sheen's lifestyle and some have probably idolized his carefree lifestyle.

HIV is no laughing matter. More than 1.2 million Americans are living with HIV or AIDS and I'm sure most didn't have Charlie's lifestyle which makes this outcome more likely.

There's no lesson to be learned as we all know that years of abusing drugs and sexual debauchery can have negative repercussions; it's just a disappointing result from a man who has made many disappointing decisions.

P.S. If the National Enquirer report is true (50% chance at best, I'm sure) that he was diagnosed four years ago and has been hiding it while hooking up with thousands of people since, he should be thrown in prison.
