As another holiday approaches, I realized that I've never really ranked the six major holidays: Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Independence Day, New Year's Eve/Day and Thanksgiving.

Here is my list:

  1. Christmas – I grew up in a generous family who enjoyed giving gifts to one another, eating good food and drinking beverages that make you really feel that Xmas cheer. I actually like spending time with all of my family and this is the one holiday I get to see both sides of the family.
  2. Thanksgiving – This day includes two of my favorite things in life: food and football. Actually, unless the Vikings are playing Detroit (haven't since 1995), we don't have the TV on a football game until Dallas is playing. My family eats early, then we hang out and/or take a nap then we go for a walk and then watch a movie or two and eat again. Yes, we make turkey sandwiches and it's debatable which meal is my favorite. I love it!
  3. 4th of July – My Aunt Amy and Uncle Stan’s throw a great Independence Day party complete with slushy margaritas that are REALLY tasty.
  4. New Year's Eve/Day – Every year it’s something different and I like it for that reason. Last NYE, we stayed in as my wife was pregnant, the year before we went out and got crazy at Lot One.
  5. Halloween – I’m the scrooge of Halloween. I've never been big into dressing up and I'm not sure why (maybe because the costumes I want never come in 'Big and Tall' sizes?!?)
  6. Easter – Getting the family together for an Easter Egg hunt and enjoying a spring day is always nice. Especially when the Master’s is wrapping up!
