50 Cent Reaches Partial Settlement With Hip-Hop Website

50 Cent has reportedly resolved part of his legal battle with hip-hop website HipHopDX. The Blast reports today (Aug. 23) that the rapper accepted a $20,000 settlement from the publication for their alleged use of his photo without permission in June.

"The owners of HipHopDX offered Mr. Jackson a judgment against them in the amount of $20,000 to resolve his claims, which he accepted," 50's lawyer Stephen J. Savva told The Blast.

The "In Da Club" rapper originally sued HipHopDX for an article published on June 27 that disputed 50's claim on Instagram that he sold the phrase "Get the strap" to a mixed martial arts company for $1 million.

The rapper's legal team claimed, according to The Blast, that a photo taken from 50 Cent's Instagram post, originally published with the article, "was copyrighted" and that the website "knew or should have known that it did not have license, permission, or consent to reproduce and display." He reportedly wanted over $150,000 in damages.

In a separate Instagram post, 50 Cent also accused the reporter, Justin Ivey, of publishing "fake news." This prompted HipHopDX to file a countersuit defending its reporting as factual and accusing the rapper of defamation. The website reportedly demanded $3 million in damages. The defamation case is ongoing.
