Social media can be a wasteland of bullying, harassment and unwanted opinions for celebrities, especially young women. It's something Ariel Winter knows all too well, and it's the reason behind her departure from one social media app in particular.

On Friday (July 6), the Modern Family star's rep confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that Winter deleted her Twitter account in an effort to find "a moment to breathe and enjoy herself without [judgment]."

"Ariel has taken a break from Twitter and engaging with commenters on her other platforms because of the constant negativity she experiences," the actress's rep shared in a statement.

The app deletion comes days after Winter announced she was "in the process of deleting all social media," an announcement she made via Instagram Stories. (As of publication time, her Instagram account is still active.)

Winter joins a long line of other celebrities who have left social media behind, at one point of another, due to harassment and negativity.

In June, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown deactivated her Twitter account after becoming a cruel homophobic meme. The same month, Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran deleted her Instagram following a constant barrage of bullying and racism from Star Wars fans.
