Drake knows that Kardinal Offishall paved the way for Toronto rappers. During a recent show, Drizzy paid his respects to Kardinal for helping Toronto hip-hop reach a wider audience. Drake stopped his performance to shout out Kardinal, who was in attendance at the event.

“You gotta understand one of the biggest rappers in the world to me is standing right here," Drake said. "You see in my city, there’s this guy, his name is Kardinal Offishall. He taught us everything we know about getting paid, about crossing over. So, big up to the homie."

Kardinal cracked open the door for Drake, but the OVO Sound artist smashed through it to become one of the biggest stars in music. Most recently, Drake has become the unofficial king of streaming.

Drake set the Spotify record for most single day streams by racking up 76,355,041 total streams on March 19. His new project More Life also set the record for most first day streams of an album. The playlist was streamed 61,302,082 times on March 19. Drake surpassed singer Ed Sheeran for both records.

The streaming success of More Life is poised to help it earn some great first week sales too. Reports indicate that Drake's latest project is projected to move between 500,000 and 550,000 equivalent album units in its first week.
