Duane "Dog" Chapman, star of A&E’s hit TV series Dog the Bounty Hunter, is branching out into film. As various outlets have reported, and he himself posted on his Instagram account, Chapman will be playing himself in a "faith-based thrilled" called Hunting God.

The movie, which also stars Wesley Truman Daniel, Ann Sonneville and Mickey O’Sullivan, is directed by Justin Jackola. According to Deadline, the plot involves a widower who reunites with his old church buddies to film a hunting show in the woods. While there, a supernatural presence forces him to confront his faith.

Director Jackola notes the movie is not your "grandfather’s faith-based film," and adds that Chapman is a valuable asset to the cast. "He brings a level of understanding and compassion to the film no one else could match.” There is no official release date set yet.

Chapman's news comes on the heels of a death hoax that had his fans concerned earlier this week. On Nov. 20, the reality star turned to TMZ to set things straight regarding the false story circulated on Facebook claiming that he had died.

Chapman has been struggling with his health since the death of his wife Beth in June following a two-year fight with cancer. He admitted that he contemplated suicide after Beth died, and had a "heart emergency" in early September. Happily, he seems to be on an upward swing—in addition to his new project, he's noted that he's changed to a healthier diet and is working on quitting smoking.
