Marvel managed to spring its New Warriors casting announcement in the weeks before Comic-Con 2017, but the Freeform action comedy has plenty of surprises yet. Enlisted and Community alum Keith David now joins the supporting cast in an authoritative new role.

Per Marvel’s official announcement (h/t The Hollywood Reporter), prior Nick Fury voice and prolific character actor David will take the role of Ernest Vigman, described as “a caustic municipal employee who butts up against the hopeful energy of the New Warriors.” The ten-episode series will otherwise follow young heroes with “powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers.”

Here’s the first synopsis:

Not quite super, not yet heroes, “Marvel’s New Warriors” features six young people learning to cope with their abilities in a world where bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.

In addition to This Is Us star Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl, the new series features Calum Worthy as Robbie Baldwin (Speedball), Derek Theler as Craig Hollis (Mister Immortal), Dear White People star Jeremy Tardy as Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher), Kate Comer as Deborah Fields (Debrii) and 2 Broke Girls alum Matthew Moy as Zack Smith (Microbe).

New Warriors joins Cloak and Dagger and Hulu’s Runaways as Marvel’s next phase of younger heroes, so stay tuned for a first look.
