Sports fans love the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament because it's so unpredictable. What transpired last week reminded us that unpredictability is still alive and well.

Mercer, who shocked Duke, had millions flocking to Google to look up where the heck Mercer is located (Macon, GA). Dayton knocked off in-state big brother Ohio State before sending Syracuse home, North Dakota State had a short albeit impressive run by upsetting Oklahoma, Stephen F. Austin beat a VCU team that once was the team delivering the upsets and Kentucky took down a number one seed in Wichita State (which illustrates just how far Kentucky's fallen from an elite program).

I've been known to fill out a bracket or two in the hopes of winning a pool with friends and co-workers, but I never pretend to be an expert. I actually find it amusing how many Digger Phelps and Dick Vitales there are on Selection Sunday and the 48 hours that follow. Many feel so certain they KNOW how the cards will fall and yet, less than a week later, those same brackets are busted.

The truth is, for me, betting on the games doesn't make it any more appealing to watch the games. In fact, the opposite is true. I find myself rooting against a mid major like Harvard upsetting Michigan State rather than cheering them on.

Whatever your motivation for watching college basketball, I hope you're able to enjoy the games and appreciate the David-versus-Goliath-nature of March Madness...And make a few bucks!
