Well, folks, Illinois finally got their shot at going digital with their IDs. However, if you tried to snag one already today, you may have hit a "brick wall," so to speak. The new Illinois mobile IDs went live this morning (November 19th), letting residents add their driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet. By the way, Google and Samsung wallets will soon have that option as well.

But if you opened up your iPhone to give it a try, you might’ve been greeted with this friendly little message: "Due to the high volume, your state's service is currently busy." That's the down-low, according to CBS News in Chicago.

Looking at the comments section on Facebook, you’re likely not alone. The Secretary of State’s office says the rollout is happening in phases throughout the day, so patience is going to be the name of the game. If you hit that website brick wall, just tap “Yes” when it asks if you want to be notified when it is ready. Your phone is supposed to ping you once it’s your turn.

Now, for those wondering how to actually get it going: Open your Apple Wallet, tap the plus in the top right, pick “driver’s license or ID card,” and follow the prompts. It's pretty simple. You’ll need to scan your physical ID, take a selfie, and do a few facial/head movements for extra security. Once it’s finished and approved, you can flash it on your iPhone or Apple Watch wherever you might need it. That could be at a bar or TSA checkpoint, as well as certain apps and online services.

Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has recently assured users that the info you're providing is safe. Here's how. These digital IDs use the same encryption tech as tap-to-pay and boarding passes. Additionally, you can hide personal details like your address or birthday if you prefer.

By the way, it's important to remember that your mobile ID doesn’t replace the old-school one. You still have to carry that around for any issue that might involve the police. So, if "going digital" is giving you trouble today, just breathe, maybe grab a cup of coffee, and check back in a bit. Patience is STILL a virtue, even in the digital age.
