Joey Badass Thinks He Might Get Blacklisted for Talking About Certain Things on New Album

Joey Bada$$ has never been afraid to speak his mind, but on his forthcoming album All Amerikkkan Bada$$, he's taking things to another level. In fact, he believes his newest project's subject matter could lead to him being blacklisted from the music industry. He said as much on Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener's OTHERtone podcast this past weekend.

Joey's revelation about his album's content arrives after Pharrell asks him a series of questions about his goals for the project, with the last one being "If this happens..." at around the 2:10 mark in the video below.

To Skateboard P's last question, Joey responds, "If certain things don't happen, then I'm like... I'm pretty convinced that like, I might be blacklisted or something like that." When Pharrell asks why Joey feels that way, the "Land of the Free" artist explains what he means.

"Hey man it's deep, like you know, the things that I'm saying on this album isn't what you hear rappers saying or speaking about. You know what I mean? It's really topics that I think need to be discussed more in music," Joey explains.

Joey goes on to talk about the way Trump's presidency and police brutality influenced the content of his latest project. According to Joey, his new music serves as an outlet for his own feelings regarding the state of the world and an opportunity to do more for promoting equality in the U.S.

"I've had all of these feelings that have just been, you know, boxed inside of me," Joey says in the interview. "And as a young musician, I feel responsible to, you know, speak for the people I can speak for. The people who don't have a voice."
