For those fans of sci-fi and mechas and giant monsters, news of a Pacific Rim sequel was exciting, to say the least. Pacific Rim: Uprising is currently in production, and we’ve got a lot of cool costumes and ridiculously cool-looking sets to look forward to. Plus, the movie stars none other than John Boyega, who’s been making a name for himself in sci-fi ever since The Force Awakens after he caught our eye in British alien invasion film Attack the Block (which, if you haven’t seen, you should go find immediately). Boyega’s pretty excited about his new movie, as you can see from how many Instagrams he’s been posting. Today he’s shared another look at himself in character as Stacker Pentecost’s (Idris Elba) son.

The photo is frustratingly dark and from a weird angle, so all we can see is a big load of nothing, but whatever he’s sitting in looks to be some large metal contraption.

One of my favorite parts about the first movie was the usage of great big practical sets. The CGI was also fantastic, and they easily could have digitally painted all of the sets to just look bigger, but any Guillermo del Toro production insists on liberal usage of practical set design. It looks like Uprising, though it has a different director, will do more of the same.

Plus, director Steven S. DeKnight shared a look last week at the new logo, which looks pretty much exactly the same as the original, just with a subtitle.

Pacific Rim: Uprising, which sees the return of Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, and Rinki Kikuchi, as well as newcomers Cailee Spaeny, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, Jin Zhang, and Mackenyu, hits theaters February 23, 2018.
