‘Justice League’ Star Henry Cavill Teases Black Superman Costume in New Photo
Look, in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a Goodyear tire! No, it’s the new Superman costume from Justice League. Seemingly confirming rumors that the Man of Steel will be wearing a black suit in Zack Snyder’s next superhero epic, Henry Cavill shared a new close-up shot of the Superman costume from the set of the upcoming film — and although you can’t see the entire thing, it is most certainly black.
Following Snyder’s debut of the new logo and that pic of Aquaman with a guitar, this new photo also lends more credence to my theory that Ben Affleck is actually assembling a heavy metal supergroup:
The photo gives you a nice, detailed look at the costume’s intricate design, which looks heavily influenced by Superman’s home planet of Krypton as well as The Death of Superman comic-book arc. As to why Superman has ditched the red and blue suit in favor of a black one…well, that’s where we get into potential spoiler territory:
Superman died in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the brief, final shot teased his return as soil mysteriously lifted ever-so-slightly from the top of his coffin. Duh, obviously Superman is coming back — he’s featured (in his classic suit, no less) in the Justice League promo art. But it’s not that simple; rumor has it that Superman is resurrected (with the help of Lex Luthor) and goes rogue, presenting quite a problem for Batman and the newly-assembled Justice League.
Cavill wasn’t featured in the footage that debuted at Comic-Con, and Snyder and WB have yet to confirm how Superman returns, but this new photo makes it pretty clear that things are going to be a bit different when he does.
Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
