It's no secret that authentic Kurt Cobain memorabilia makes for hot commodities among rock fans. After all, even a pizza plate used by the late Nirvana frontman went for big dollars at auction. Now, the iconic sweater from the singer's 1993 MTV Unplugged performance is up for bid.

The garment is not to be confused, however, with a previous sweater of Cobain's that was sold off by Southern California auction house Julien's Auctions earlier this year. That one was worn during a photo shoot surrounding Nirvana's final studio effort In Utero. This one, as reported by CBS News, is the unmistakably shaggy, olive green cardigan the rocker layered over a white T-shirt and colorful dress shirt when Cobain hit the stage November 18, 1993, at Sony Studios in New York City. That performance, of course, was memorialized on Nirvana's subsequent live album MTV Unplugged in New York.

But that's not all that Julien's Auctions will ultimately transfer to the highest bidder after the "Icons & Idols: Rock 'N' Roll" auction to be held Oct. 25 and 26 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York. Also on the block is one of Cobain's "custom-built left-handed Fender Mustang" guitars he used "during Nirvana's In Utero tour," according to a press release excerpt highlighted below. The turquoise-colored axe was previously seen at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The "Icons & Idols" auction will also host items from rock legends such as Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead and more.

In the past, personal Kurt Cobain items such as handwritten letters have been touted by fellow musicians in addition to the Hollywood-centric auction house. For those who can't be present at the auction later this month, interested viewers can tune in to watch the proceedings live here.

At the center stage of this event will be two important items tied to the legacy and iconography of one of rock music’s most signature artists, Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, including his custom-built left-handed Fender Mustang guitar during Nirvana’s In Utero tour as well as his vintage olive-green cardigan worn at Nirvana’s most defining performance and one of rock history’s best live performances ever recorded, on MTV’s Unplugged in New York.
