L.A. Reid will no longer be the chairman of Epic Records. The longtime executive is leaving the label, according to Variety.

Reid joined Epic in 2011, and the label experienced quite a bit of a success under his leadership. Future, DJ Khaled and Travis Scott all earned No. 1 albums over the past year. Reid also displayed his expertise outside of hip-hop by signing popular acts like Meghan Trainor and Fifth Harmony.

The former drummer got his start in the industry by creating LaFace Records in 1989. Reid went onto to play an instrumental role in the careers of the legendary Dungeon Family by signing OutKast and Goodie Mob to the imprint. Reid also helped launch the careers of TLC and Usher through his work at LaFace. When Arista Records absorbed LaFace in 2000, Reid became the CEO.

Reid would eventually leave in 2004 to join the Island Def Jam Music Group. While there, he helped play a role in the careers of artists like Kanye West and Rihanna. He also worked extensively with Mariah Carey on her 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi, which became a hit.

The next move for Reid is unknown. The industry veteran is a producer for Fox series called Cotton Club, which is currently in development. Variety reports that Epic President Sylvia Rhone’s name has been brought up as a temporary solution to Reid's exit. Reps for Epic and Sony Music would not comment on the situation.
