Lil Jon has helped build a primary school in the African nation of Ghana. The rapper-DJ-producer went on his Instagram page to unveil his new school for Ghanaian children ages five to 12.

According to Ghana Web, the students previously had to study under trees and a shed. If it rained, there was no school at all. With this new building, kids can go to school and learn in a safe environment.

Lil Jon funded the school with the help of Pencils of Promise, a non-profit government organization, and dedicated it to his late mother, Carrie M. Smith.

"This is the first Project we’ve done together of this kind and it is amazing to see the community come out to support and the appreciation they are showing for us building the school and I just feel like I’m lost for words of how amazing it feels to give the community something like this school," said Jon.

The 46-year-old musician said that he and his family - his wife, Nicole Smith, and son Nathan - chose Ghana for the project because they are black Americans and have a kinship with Ghana.

Jon has been posting photos on his IG page of the school's ribbon cutting ceremony in Ghana and some of the children who are attending the learning center. In one photo, he holds a picture of himself and his late mother.

"Yesterday was a special day for me and my family," he wrote in the caption. "We had a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication of a brand new primary school in Ghana. I dedicate it to the Abomayaw community and to my mother. God is good."
