Lil Nas X truly enjoys his cowboy hats, and there is no secret driving force behind the head gear he's been sporting. The "Old Town Road" rapper cleared up the rumors that have been floating around with a tweet on Thursday afternoon (May 9).

"nobody forcing me to wear cowboy hats," Nas X wrote. "if u had a yee haw ass song go number 1 for weeks you would be wearing the shit too."

The tweet comes in response to social media-based comments suggesting that the rapper was being forced to wear the hats by his handlers or his record label. By his own account, though, can't nobody tell him nothin'.

In related Lil Nas X news, the viral sensation performed alongside Cardi B at her Fashion Nova clothing line launch event in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (May 8). He received a ton of praise from Bardi for achieving a No. 1 record with "Old Town Road"—a feat she first accomplished in 2017 with "Bodak Yellow."

"It's muthafuckin' hard to get a No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100," Cardi told the crowd at the Hollywood Palladium before bringing Nas X out. "That shit is hard as fuck! So every single time I see somebody getting that spot I be like, 'Damn I'm proud of you, bitch. I'm proud of you, nigga.' When I got my first No. 1, I cried like a muthafucka. So I wanna say that I'm so proud of this young guy who's about to come up and fuck up the stage because his No. 1 is still No. 1 after they tried to deny his muthafuckin' entry."

Of course, he rocked his cowboy hat in all its glory for his performance.
