Here’s How Much Macklemore’s ‘Gemini’ Album Sold First Week

The numbers are in, and Macklemore has once again landed in the top 10 of Billboard's Hot 200 chart—at No. 2, to be exact. In its opening week, Mack's first solo album in 12 years, titled Gemini, moved 51,000 equivalent album units. 27,000 of those units were of the traditional album sales variety.

Gemini's landing at No. 2 marks the first time Macklemore's landed on the Billboard Hot 200 chart with a solo album. His solo debut, titled The Language of My World, failed to chart. The Seattle, Wash. rapper did, however, land in the chart's top 10 with his Ryan Lewis-assisted efforts The Heist (2012, No. 2) and This Unruly Mess I’ve Made (2016, No. 4). Those sold 78,000 and 61,000 units first week respectively.

On the other hand, the incarcerated Kevin Gates has also done some numbers. After debuting at No. 100 on the chart shortly after its release, Gates' By Any Means 2 shot up to No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 in its second week. It moved 40,000 equivalent album units this past week, which equals a 467 percent increase in sales. As was made clear by the success of his platinum-selling album, Islah, there is no stopping Gates.

Other former XXL Freshman have also left an impact on the Billboard Hot 200 chart recently. After moving 135,000 equivalent album units in its first week and landing at No. 1 on the list, Lil Uzi Vert's Luv Is Rage 2  slips to No. 3 on the chart in its fifth week. He moved 45,000 equivalent album units last week.
