Like the film’s eponymous hero, The Crow reboot refuses to die. After suffering a series of setbacks — including director and casting changes and a highly-publicized studio bankruptcy — Relativity Media has reportedly renewed their commitment to the long-developing remake of the ’90s cult classic, with Jason Momoa now in talks to play the lead role.

Per Mashable, the former Game of Thrones star and current Aquaman is eyeing the role originated by the late Brandon Lee in Alex Proyas’ 1994 film. In the midst of Relativity’s bankruptcy, the future of The Crow became uncertain and there were conflicting reports regarding the ongoing involvement of director Corin Hardy. But Momoa posted this photo to his Instagram account a few days ago, in which he poses alongside The Hallows director:

Not only is Hardy still attached to direct, but it appears that Momoa is very close to officially signing on for the reboot.

Proyas’ 1994 film was based on the James O’Barr graphic novel and follows Eric Draven, a promising rock musician who returns from the dead to seek vengeance on those who murdered him and his fiancee. Reborn as The Crow, the goth hero teams up with a teenage girl to find the killers and bring them to justice.

It’s unclear if Downton Abbey star Jessica Brown Findlay is still attached to play the role of Eric’s fiancee, Shelly; Findlay was originally cast opposite Jack Huston, who dropped out of the project amid repeated delays. Although Hardy’s version is said to be more faithful to O’Barr’s original graphic novel series, it was previously reported that Andrea Riseborough had been cast as a gender-swapped version of the film’s villain, Top Dollar. Her involvement also remains unknown.
