Listen to a New J. Cole Song From His Recent HBO Film

J. Cole's new 4 Your Eyez Only, A Dreamville Film debuted last night on HBO. The film's score features a new song from the N.C. MC.

The chill track finds Cole contemplating life and religion. "God is real and he's using me for a bigger purpose/So fuck the world that would have you think that a nigga worthless/Sometimes I think that these verses can help a person way more than the ones they reading in churches on days of worship/No disrespect to the Lord and Savior that ain't just ego/I just observed that those words no longer relate to people," he raps.

The song runs while footage of a church service is shown, sliced in with footage of Cole spinning around on an unseen platform. The song seems to have a similar vibe to the newly released film.

The Cole and Scott Lazer-directed project takes viewers on a journey with Jermaine as he interviews people from Baton Rouge, Atlanta, Ferguson, Mo., and his father’s hometown of Jonesboro, Ark., and gives a first-hand account of plight of individuals in those areas.

This is Cole's second time working with Home Box Office on a film project. In 2015, the network aired his Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming Concert, a 90-minute special that featured the Dreamville rapper’s entire performance of his platinum selling album 2014 Forest Hills Drive and exclusive backstage access. It also featured backstory footage on the rapper's life through his music and interviewed some of his family and friends.

In related news, the "False Prophets" rapper has been nominated for two awards at the upcoming 2017 Billboard Music Awards in the categories of Top Rap Album and Top Rap Artist.

Two weeks ago, Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only LP reached platinum status.
