Is Ryan Reynolds Really Dancing in Celine Dion’s ‘Ashes’ Video?
For her "Ashes" video, released on Thursday (May 3), Celine Dion enlisted an unlikely source: Foul-mouthed mercenary Deadpool, who joins her for a surprisingly graceful pas de deux. But if you're not convinced that it was Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds pirouetting his way across the stage...well, you're not the only one. Turns out it wasn't really Reynolds behind the Marvel vigilante's mask. Gasp!
“Ever wonder, ‘How does Ryan Reynolds dance so beautifully? Did he have 8 bones surgically removed from his body in order to move as if a graceful swan had sex with Fred Astaire?’ The answer may surprise you,” Reynolds joked on Instagram. “Yes. I did have 8 bones removed from my body. But the dancing was all @yanismarshall.”
Yanis Marshall, for those not keyed into the dance community, is a French choreographer. He was a finalist on Britain's Got Talent in 2014, appeared on the French version of Dancing With the Stars as an artistic coach, and choreographed for Ukraine's So You Think You Can Dance. He's currently a choreographer for Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity show in Las Vegas, and also runs a popular YouTube channel, where he shares his work.
And, to top it all off, he comes with a glowing recommendation from Reynolds. “This man is not just a dancer… he’s an elite athlete, hero, and all-around hilarious person," the actor continued in his post. "Follow him on Instagram. Put him in movies. Throw confetti at his feet when you see him. He is a gift to this weary world.”
"Ashes" will appear on the Deadpool 2 soundtrack; The movie hits theaters May 18. Revisit the song's video below.
