The success of sexy CW Archie reboot Riverdale all-but-guaranteed spinoffs, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch had to be at the top of that list. Well, get ready for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, as a horror-themed spinoff is officially in development.

CW showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will write the adaptation as a “companion” for Riverdale, likely to debut in the 2018-19 season. Far from Melissa Joan Hart and wise-cracking cats, the new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is described both as “a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft,” and “in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

It’s not immediately clear if Sabrina would first debut on Riverdale (just as The Flash made his first appearances on Arrow), or if the two worlds are intended to directly connect. Riverdale has danced around a few supernatural elements from its Archie roots, but hasn’t full-on embraced them yet.

In the meantime, Riverdale Season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, October 10, so stay tuned for more on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in the meantime.
