MTV’s The Shannara Chronicles has officially been Spike-d. The high-concept fantasy drama has booked an October premiere for Season 2 in its new Spike home, simultaneously releasing an eye-popping first trailer.

According to Spike’s official announcement, Season 2 of The Shannara Chronicles will premiere Wednesday, October 11 at 10:00 P.M. with the first of ten new hour-long episodes. The adaptation of Terry Brooks’ 25-novel franchise adds to the cast this year Vanessa Morgan (Lyria), Malese Jow (Mareth), Gentry White (Garet), Caroline Chikezie (Queen Tamlin), and Desmond Chiam (General Riga), while Spike summarizes Season 2 as such:

Season two takes place one year after the events of last season. The Four Lands are in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight.

For those unfamiliar with the 25-book franchise that began in 1977, the Shannara series follows the titular family hundreds of years after the destruction of our own civilization, as their magical powers “perpetually reshape the future of the world.” The Jon Favreau-produced adaptation (with Smallville producers Al Gough and Miles Millar at the helm) started with the chronologically second novel, The Elfstones of Shannara, as its first season.
