Watch ‘Star Wars’ Characters ‘Sing’ Hanson’s ‘MMMBop’
'Tis the season...for video edits that make it look like hit songs are being performed by people who actually had nothing to do with the music. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has gotten into the act with a cleverly spliced-together series of Star Wars bits set to the strains of Hanson's "MMMBop."
The rapid-fire edit, which you can stream above, strings together bits of dialogue from throughout the blockbuster franchise, all timed and ordered to match the group's breakout 1997 hit. From the original trilogy to the prequels and beyond, you'll see a slew of your favorite Star Wars characters and moments, but instead of battling for the fate of a galaxy far, far away, they're bopping out to some of the most tightly crafted pop-rock to ever come out of Tulsa, Okla.
While it seems pretty clear that The Tonight Show was inspired to put together the bit due to the fact that the latest installment in the franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is due to arrive in theaters this Friday (Dec. 15). The timing is also convenient for Hanson, however; after a four-year layoff between full-length albums that stretches back to 2013's Anthem, the trio recently returned with their second collection of holiday music — and first in 20 years — titled Finally It's Christmas.
"This was a full year," Taylor Hanson told Entertainment Weekly. "As we all go home, we’ll come off the road, fans will go back and visit their families. We thought, this is almost a final gift for this year for people, to say, 'Hey, Merry Christmas. It’s taken us 20 years to add something else to your relationship with this band.' It’s been long enough that it’s time for an update."
