Taxstone Posts $500,000 Bail After Being Arrested in Connection to Irving Plaza Shooting

Taxstone has posted $500,000 bail after being arrested Tuesday (Jan. 18) in connection to the shooting that took place at New York's Irving Plaza last May.

According to New York Times, Taxstone’s DNA was found on the trigger, hand grip and magazine of a 9-millimeter Kel-Tec semi-automatic handgun that was used in the shooting in the VIP area at Irving Plaza back in May at a T.I. concert. According to a federal complaint, Taxstone, whose real name is Daryl Campbell, allegedly used the gun before the shooting and videos show him entering the green room before the gunfire and then fleeing. Rapper Troy Ave and two others were wounded in the shooting, while Troy Ave’s bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, was killed. Following the shooting, Troy Ave was arraigned on charges including attempted murder—he and his lawyers maintain his innocence, citing self-defense.

DNA Info New York reports that statements that Taxstone made during his Tax Season podcast will be used against him by prosecutors.

“I can protect myself as a man, so I’m not thinking about rolling with six goons,” prosecutors quoted Taxstone as saying in statements made prior to the shooting. "When I see you walking up with six dudes, bang-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba…I want to embarrass somebody, and that’s why I started bullying Troy Ave, you know what I mean?”

Billboard reports that the podcast host has posted bail for $500,000 and has been placed on house arrest. While on house arrest he will be allowed to continue recording his popular podcast, but will wear an ankle monitor.
