Tee Grizzley’s “First Day Out” Is One of the Hottest Songs Out of Detroit Right Now

Four years ago, Meek Mill dropped one of the hardest rap intros ever with "Dreams and Nightmares," a slow-building song that crescendos with "hold up wait a minute" as the beat suddenly switches from somber to urgent. It's still the best song Meek has in his catalog, and now it's sprouted some potent offspring.

Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley released a song in early November called "First Day Out," and the structure of the song, produced by Helluva, is similar to the Philly rapper's highlight. Tee recorded the track soon after getting out of jail for some "smash and grab, home invasion shit," as he put it, and it's currently the eighth most popular song on Spotify unique to the Detroit area right now. It's got over three million plays on YouTube in under a month and is quickly becoming one of the hottest songs in the city. Hear it above.

Detroit's got a colorful rap scene right now, despite the loss of the late, great Dex Osama. Rappers like Big Sean, Danny Brown and Dej Loaf have seen more mainstream success, while Bandgang, Icewear Vezzo, Eastside Peezy, Pablo Skywalkin and Payroll Giovanni are just a few dudes keeping street rap alive in the city.
