The jury is still out on whether Thor: Ragnarok will be the best Thor movie. But at this point, it’s definitely the best advertised Thor movie. The trailers, the ads, the posters; all that marketing stuff has been colorful and fun, and definitely geared toward convincing skeptics who didn’t love the first two films to give this one a try.

Witness, for example, this new pair of new Ragnarok posters. They’re basically identical with one key difference: Cate Blanchett’s Hela is presented either with or without her giant, pointy headdress. First, here’s Cate au naturel:

And here’s Cate all spiked up:

My first impression: This is definitely the most blade-heavy Thor movie to date. There’s six of them on these posters all by themselves. Mjolnir is MIA (if you’ve seen the trailer, you know Hela destroys it at some point in the movie) but there’s all the knives and stabbing weapons all over this thing.

Here’s the movie’s plot synopsis:

Imprisoned, the mighty Thor finds himself in a lethal gladiatorial contest against the Hulk, his former ally. Thor must fight for survival and race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home and the Asgardian civilization.

Both of these new posters are cool, holding up the high standards that Thor: Ragnarok’s marketing materials has maintained so far, but I don’t think either one tops the poster Marvel debuted last month at San Diego Comic-Con. That might be my favorite poster of 2017. Thor: Ragnarok hammers theaters on November 3.
