We’ve had two pieces of Terrence Malick news in less than a week and there's three upcoming Malick movies to look forward to. What a time to be alive!

Today is an especially good day for cinephiles and Malick fans. The reclusive filmmaker’s long-awaited Voyage of Time, which has been 30 years in the making, finally has an official synopsis and a poster. The Film Stage discovered the synopsis for the released on the official IMAX website:

Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience is a one-of-a-kind celebration of life and the grand history of the cosmos, transporting audiences into a vast yet up-close-and personal journey that spans the eons from the Big Bang to the dinosaur age to our present human world … and beyond. A labor of love from one of American cinema’s most acclaimed and visually exciting filmmakers, Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life), Voyage of Time has been nearly four decades in the making and represents the filmmaker’s first foray into documentary storytelling. The film’s panorama of awe-inspiring images will take you into the heart of monumental events never witnessed — from the birth of the stars and galaxies to the explosion of diverse life-forms on planet earth, including humankind — in immersive new ways that only IMAX can deliver. This is a cosmic experience — a hymn to the glories of nature, life and scientific discovery — in which all the elements come together to form Malick’s most original film to date.

Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience, a 40-minute, giant-screen adventure narrated by Brad Pitt, which immerses audiences directly into the story of the universe and life itself, will be shown exclusively in IMAX® theatres.

So it’s basically “life,” by Terrence Malick. Sign me up! If anything, we can expect similarities to The Tree of Life's origins of the universe sequence, just with more existential Brad Pitt whispers. The film will also be scored by Ennio Morricone, who will reteam with the filmmaker for the first time since their work on 1978's Days of Heaven.

The project was originally known as Q in the 70s when Malick first began development with Paramount. Eventually Malick and the studio parted ways, but some of the footage ended up in The Tree of Life. Malick’s first foray in documentary filmmaking, Voyage of Time will be released in two versions, a 40-minute IMAX cut narrated by Pitt, while a 90-minute 35mm version will be narrated by Cate Blanchett. The latter doesn’t have a release date yet, but you can clear your schedule on October 7 when the IMAX version opens. Take a look at the poster, via Indiewire, below.

Its definitely a good time to be a Malick fan, especially now that the filmmaker who made only three films within the first 30 years of his his directing career is working more than ever. His upcoming narrative feature Weightless, starring everyone from Ryan Gosling to Rooney Mara to Michael Fassbender, has been completed and is expected to open in the U.K. in 2017. Malick is also reportedly beginning work on World War II drama Radegund, about Austrian conscientious objector Franz Jägerstätter with August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds). Whatever kicked Malick into full-speed gear, let’s hope it doesn’t die out.
