Last Saturday I had one goal: try to replicate my friend's chicken wing sauce and throw some poultry on the grill. To help me accomplish that mission was another friend, Tyler, who was in town from Minnesota.

We went to the grocery store to load up on supplies; the last thing we grabbed was a habanero and jalapeno pepper.

After Tyler bagged the peppers up, he looked at me with a very serious face and told me I was cutting the peppers after he had a painful experience with his contact lens & the peppers the last time he assisted making these wings with our friend.

I agreed and we went home to begin the preparations. I was extremely careful while cutting the peppers; I wore gloves and made sure I dumped the seeds down the drain while not touching anything but the cutting board and the knife.

Once I had placed the peppers in the processor and carefully confiscated all of the seeds, I removed the gloves and washed my hands thoroughly.

I continued working in the kitchen; washing my hands 3-5 more times throughout the process.

I'd say a good 20-30 minutes had passed and I needed to use the bathroom. I took care of that and came back out to rejoin the conversation with my friends when all of a sudden it felt like someone started a fire in my pants!

My buddy snapped this pic of me right when the burn started. Notice the smile; that went away very quickly.

Initially, it was just uncomfortable and I could even laugh with my friends. Then it started getting hotter....and hotter.....and HOTTER! I was seriously worried I would have to go to the hospital as it felt like my skin was burning off my.....well, you get the idea.

So, how did I cope? Sour cream. An entire container of sour cream. Oh, and a shower after the effects subsided.

I'll be honest, I debated whether to share this story, but it was too damn funny not to.

P.S. I have no idea how the pepper juice penetrated the gloves I was wearing but the wings turned out GREAT!

These wings were truly a pain to make, but ultimately worth it. OK, maybe not worth THAT, but they were very tasty!
