My thanks to Jennifer McFadden for stopping in to chat about the upcoming Roll and Sole-a-thon that is coming up on Saturday, May 2nd with ARK Advocates.

ARK Advocates is a local organization that supports people with disabilities in Dubuque County.

Jennifer is a member of ARK Advocates.  Her son, Liam, has received many of the  services provided by the organization.  He would receive respite care at a local gym with volunteers who would give mom a few hours off for herself.

They also threw Liam a bike-party on his 8th birthday, giving him an opportunity to ride a bike for the first time in his life.

Through the ARK Advocates 'lending library,' adaptive equipment is available for use for clients with disabilities.  From daily necessities like home equipment to recreational devices, like bicycles.  These are items used by children and adults.

From what Jennifer told me, adaptive equipment gives families an opportunity to do activities together, which means a lot to her and her family.  (Why wouldn't someone just buy a bicycle for their family?  The cost is about $2,000!)

This brings us to the Roll and Sole-a-thon event next Saturday, May 2nd at the Mystique Community Ice Center in Dubuque.  There will be an expo for the 'lending library' so you can learn a little bit more about it.

The roll part is riding some of those adaptive bikes.  You'll be able to bring your bike and take part in an endurance ride, or the sole part - a family walk!

The roller derby girls will be there doing face painting.  Carlos O'Kellys will be there with food and beverages, a DJ and prizes, too!

It's going to be a lot of fun, so be sure to find all the details at THE ARK ADVOCATES WEBSITE.
