Azealia Banks Shares Harrowing Account of Rape
In a series of now-deleted Instagram posts, Azealia Banks alleges that she was drugged and raped on Saturday (April 14). The "Anna Wintour" rapper hopped on Instagram on Saturday evening and shared a harrowing account of the alleged incident.
"Lowkey just got raped," Banks wrote in the caption of an Instagram Story. "I feel like dirt. I just feel so dirty and stupid right now, you know? We were just hanging out and one thing led to another. I just feel really dumb, because it was partially my fault," the rapper said while holding back tears before breaking down.
"I’m just like sitting here like feeling fucking low and shit. I just want to fucking disappear right now," she continued. "I just feel really bad. I don't think I'm going to be putting out more music... Like I just want to take some time and figure out what just happened."
Along with taking a break from music, Banks said she would also be deleting her social media accounts. "I'm gonna take down all of my accounts because I'm just like embarrassed," she shared. "I just feel like really broken down and feel like rebuilding myself as an artist. I don't know how to face y'all."
While Banks didn't reveal too much information about the alleged incident, she added, "You don't really realize it like this rape shit. Men can just prey on you and fucking like badger you, force you to say yes… to the point where you feel like you gave consent but you didn’t give shit."
The Fantasea II artist went on to say that she felt powerless during the situation. "You never wanted to do shit and you're just there feeling fucking powerless. Someone really just got the fucking best of me," she said.
Banks eventually returned to Instagram and shared an update with her fans, saying she was better now, the Daily Mail reports. "I'm awake and walking y'all!! I'm good! Like I said..It takes a lot to take this elephant down!! Show is still on for tomorrow..see y'all then!!!"
The rapper also alleged she was roofied, writing in a separate video, "What is Even in a roofie? I've never felt that type of intoxication in my life. I woke up my throat was in pins and needles."
In November, Banks shared details of alleged abuse at the hands of Dave Holmes, a Coldplay manager and her boyfriend at the time. According to the rapper, earlier in her career, the two got into a heated argument that led to Holmes putting Banks in a "choking headlock."
