Pain is temporary.  That's what they keep telling us.

I'm not gonna lie to you... getting off the toilet last night was interesting.

In my first post about Farrell's, I mentioned the 6 classes each week are broken down into 3 kickboxing and 3 resistance training days.

While you're really exerting yourself on kickboxing days, the resistance band days are a little slower paced.  That's not to say you don't feel the burn!

If you didn't know, the major muscles in the upper leg are the hamstrings and quadriceps. The hamstrings are three muscles at the back of the thigh that affect hip and knee movement. The quadriceps—the strongest and leanest muscles in the body—are a four-muscle group at the front of the thigh that work to extend the knee and lower leg.

From what I've been reading, if you're a runner you will use different muscle groups depending on what type of runner you are.  For instance, sprinters use more of their quads, hamstrings and calves, while short distance runners use more of their quads and hip flexors.

My point?  At Farrell's Extreme Bodyshaping we make a point to strengthen all the muscle groups.  Making more muscles stronger means you burn more calories and see more results!

Yesterday we did an exercise I'm still feeling today... step-back lunges!  While standing on a resistance band with your front foot, you take a full step back with the other.  With your hands above your head, you drop you back knee to the floor and then lift yourself back up using your front hamstring.

(Bruce was already in pain but posed for the photo for me anyway... what a trooper.)

This exercise was hard for me to do.  I made it through most of the first set but was whimpering as we progressed through a faster set.

After class the instructor, Molly, told us not to feel bad about not being able to finish a set but to keep trying.  She assured us you eventually work your way up to it as you get stronger.

While we complain about being sore or hurting, we're not sorry we're doing it.  Bruce and I both love the classes and look forward to returning to see what each day brings.

As for an update from Bruce, he is saying that many people have noticed a thinner face and a reduction in his body.  He's feeling more energy and has better stamina as we get close to finishing week number 3.

Almost three weeks done on our 10-week adventure.  Just think where you'd be if you had started with us!  Find details on Farrell's Extreme Bodyshaping and their next round of classes starting April 9th HERE!
