My thanks to Jeff Hefel from Ruhl and Ruhl for stopping in to chat about the charity kickball tournament coming up next week.

Jeff has been bringing representatives from the 3 area non-profits that will be collecting proceeds from the tournament, so you have an idea as to where your money will be going.

This week he brought Daniel Wahlert, Executive Director for the Dubuque/Jackson County Habitat For Humanity.

For those of you who don't know, Habitat For Humanity is an international non-profit organization that builds houses for those who can't afford them.

The Dubuque chapter has existed since 1991 and has built and remodeled 19 homes since its start.

Homes aren't just given away.  Rather, the people receiving homes put in hundreds of man hours referred to as 'Sweat Equity.'  In essence, they help build their own house.

There is an selection process to receive a home and a number of criteria points need to be met.

People who would like to donate time and energy to Habitat For Humanity can stop by their offices to learn more at 900 Jackson Street or call 563-556-2195.  You don't need any construction experience.  They'll teach you how to paint, frame, drywall and hammer!

Money donated from the kickball tournament will be used to help build two houses next year.

The kickball tournament is next Saturday, August 29th and sign ups are still going on.  If you'd like to gather a 10 to 14 person team, visit the RUHL AND RUHL WEBSITE to sign up.

If you sign up by today (8/19), teams will receive a t-shirt from Envision, too!

Be sure to plan on coming out even if you're not playing.  There will be activities for the kids, refreshments available for purchase and lots of fun!  It's happening at Veteran's Memorial Park (by Wahlert High School).

See you there!
