Make Sure You Catch ABC’s ‘The Goldbergs’

Jeff Robb took the words out of my mouth (and stole my Tuesday blog post) when he wrote about how excited he was for the return of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ on FX.  Here’s another one of my favorites that you should really check out… ABC’s ‘The Goldbergs.’

ABC’s ‘The Goldbergs’ returns for its second season next Thursday night.  (9/18)  Even though I’m in love with The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy, Goldbergs was by far my favorite show from last season.

Before cell phones, laptops and peanut allergies the world was a much simpler time.  A real life Adam Goldberg used his VHS video camera to capture a lot of his families hilarious moments during the 80s and unknowingly captured a great time period on videotape.

Based on his stories ‘The Goldbergs’ was created, starring Jeff Garlin (from HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Murray Goldberg, the very funny dad.  Wendi McLendon-Covey (from Bridesmaids) plays Beverly Goldberg, the meddling mom, and Sean Giambrone plays Adam Goldberg, the main character of the show.

The cast also features sitcom regular George Segal as the loving grandfather ‘Pops,’ who drops in on the family on a regular basis.  The real highlight in the cast for me is actor Troy Gentile who plays the obnoxious brother Barry, who constantly fights with his siblings and causes chaos in general, but who ultimately has a huge heart and learns the most lessons the 30-minute sitcom runs.

If you grew up in the 80s and 90s, this is a show you’ll love.  Subjects on the show have included shoes with the ‘pump,’ pro-wrestling, karate, arcades and my favorite episode about trying to watch scrambled tv channels by adjusting the cable box.

Even the music on the show will take you back.

The best part?  At the end of the show they actually show you real footage of the real Adam’s family from his VHS tape collection.  Whatever the subject of the episode was, that’s the clip they show, so you know it really happened.

Trust me, you’ll love this show.
